CALCULATOR FREAKS OUT

Guest

Every time I start windows the calculator program opens itself about one
hundred and sixty times and dramatically slow down the computer. It takes at
least a half hour every startup to close them because right clicking on the
icon rarely works. I've used various programs to locate this as a startup
program but it isn't listed as one. I deleted the calculator program a number
of times but it reappears, and I made the calculator program a read only file
but that didn't work either. PLEASE HELP.

If you have Pro type in Start Run

taskkill /im calc.exe

and they'll all close.

Is there a way I can get rid of the problem more permanently?

An idea, but I'm not technically minded enough to know for sure if this
works nor exactly how to do it.

You could write a batch file that does what the previous poster suggests you
do by using "run." Then put that batch file in your startup directly. One
big question is whether the batch file will run after the calculators show
up. If the BAT file runs before the calculators show up, it probably won't
have any effect.

If that doesn't work, maybe put the batch file shortcut in your quicklaunch
icons. That way, you just click the icon and all the calcs will disappear
(theoretically).

after killing all those instances of calc. scan for virus and the likes.

I don't have time to open anything before the calculators show up, so running
anything doesn't work. And I've scanned for viruses since the first time this
happened with no result.

use a spy scanner - get both AdAware and SpyBot, both free, and run them.
probably best to do that in safe mode too. definately sounds like a
meanie is on your system somewhere.

also, if that doesn't show up anything, get a root kit revealer and run
it.

these 3 tools are MANDITORY for finding these nasties. all are free
too, thank you very much!

I have had the same problem for quite some time. I have tried all the ways
that you mentioned in your mail - the antivirus, spyware S&D, adaware, trojan
hunter, and the rootkit revealer, to no success though. I even tried deleting
the calculator application, but it keeps appearing in the system32 folder.
And keeps running every few minutes.
