Calculations

Hi
I have joined this group in the hope you guys can steer me in right
direction. My problem is 2 or three fold
1st I am quite a novice to access and have been charged with what I
consider a difficult task

we have a data base which hold all the maintenance task for a large
building from this I have been asked to do some cost calculation

the basic calc is [((labour rate x hrs)x frequency per annum )/ (52 x
a variable % rate )]

now this costing info is all in the same table or is it better to
create new, indeed should this be done by query or other method
any advise would be appreciated
best regards

Trawets,

I don't understand what it is that you're trying to do. Maybe if you
include the fields and an example record listed in the table I could
help you more. What exactly are you trying to calculate?

Hi Brian
Sorry I always forget that it is easy to understand when you know what
it is, and your totally right its gobbledygook to most everyone else,
sorry

fields are,
Hourly rate = a number
time for task = a number
multiply these

multiply answer by annual freq = a number (ie. 52, 12, 365, 104, )

divide this then by 52 to give a weekly cost, but multiply by a
variable which is to simulate inflation etc and then give a figure for
a particular asset.

I hope this defines it a little more clearly
sorry for the ambiguity

Hi
I am sorry this post has been forgotten by me for a few weeks but I was
on holiday and some pressing stuff at work, I'm sure you understand.
Any way what do I have
a Table with quite a few feilds most are irrelevant to what I need
the main ones I think

Asset, (Asset no)
Task, (task No XXXX1,XXXX2 ect approx 200)
Trade, ( hourly rate charge so just a No ie £30)
Time, (How long this task take)
Task cost
Frequency, (how often is the task carried out on each asset)
Freq No (How many times is task carried out across asset base)

these are the feilds that I am working with which are all in the same
table, now some are blank because they are waiting the basic calc from
other feilds ie task cost

Q1 can this be done inside the table or does it need to be through a
query (a simple calc trade X time)

Q2 when I have the figure for the task cost and multiplied by the 2
frequencies, I am required to add all tasks together for the per annum
cost (again not too difficult in a query) but also to project a + - 10%
figure (I don't know how to do this)

Q3 When I have this figure, it is requested that I can then project
over the next say 10 years what the cost would be by adding an interest
calculation, well at this point, I thought you must be joking I can't
do that, well as it stands I can't, I simply just don't know how to do
this.
So I am asking , do you guys ?
Any help would be great or even just to tell them don't be daft, again
my apologies for the very bitty start to this question and gaps in
information will try to keep this going
So thanking you in anticipation
regards
Stewart
