Calculating how many pieces

C

craigwojo

Hi everyone,

Another question by me while I'm learning Excel.

To put it simple (I hope)

I have a engraver that holds a piece of plastic 24"wide x 16" high. I
a customer ask for ie. for 450 tags, each tag needs to be 2"wide x 2.5
high. I need to know how many tags of that dimension will fit on on
(1) sheet (How many tags across and how many tags up/down), how man
sheets will I need for the job.

This is basically what I need: (example)

Column A: Quanity (input)
Column B: Height (up/down measurement) (input)
Column C: Width (side to side measurement) (input)
Column D: Total tags per 16x24 sheet (formula)
Column E: Totals tags across (one row) (formula)
Column F: Totals tags up/down (one column) (formula)
Column G: Number of sheets needed for job. (formula)

Note: Columns E and F are needed for timing purposes, later down th
road on this spreadsheet. If you multiply Column E and Column F i
must match the figure in Column D. The Width of the tags will alway
be from side to side on the 16x24 sheet while the Height will always b
up and down (or top to bottom).

Sorry if this seems confusing.

Any input will be appreciated.

Thank you,
Crai

Assuming you want the long side of the tag parallel with the short side of the
sheet,

D1: Total/sheet =E1*F1
E1: Number Across =INT(24/C1)
F1: Number up/down =INT(16/B1)
G1: Number of sheets =ROUNDUP(A1/D1,0)

Swap the 24 and 16 if the orientation isn't correct.
