Calculating Hours for Overlapping Time/Date Fields

All,

I have a worksheet with a bunch of time/date fields that track
start/end times for processes. Here is an example of the type of
data. They have dates as well, but I am not using the dates in my
examples to make this simpler to read.

Start End
8:00 AM 8:45 AM
8:10 AM 9:00 AM
8:20 AM 8:30 AM

There are hundreds of records like this. Sometimes they overlap, and
sometimes they don't.

What I want to do is calculate the total time, where overlaps don't
get double- or triple- counted. The above example's total time would
be one hour.

Hopefully my question makes sense. Thanks very much for any help!

Hi Phil
not quite sure but if you don't have free times in between you may use
=MAX(B1:B20)-MIN(A1:A20)
and format the resulting cell as time
