I have copied some .dwg files into my web.

I want people to be able to download them from one of my
webpages.

What is the best way to set this up? Do I simply place a
standard link on the page that leads directly to the file
and it will automatically download onto the user's
computer when they click on said link?

Or is it more complicated than this?

thanks,
jelly

Import the file into a location in the web.
Link to it.
Publish.

How important is it to use the "import" feature....can I
just copy and paste the cad files into the web folder?

You can drag-n-drop it into the current open FP web, which is the same as using the File Menu |
Import command. Using any other method outside of FP, FP will not know that file exist.
