when i apply permissions using batch to over 300 directories using these two
utilities i get "permissions are incorrectly ordered" when manually editing
security.

Will this actually hurt anything, and is there any work around so these
function correctly? I've seen "fixes" supplied for Windows 2000, and Windows
XP PRE SP1, but no fixes for anything after. I simply cannot go into each
directory and manually apply permissions. It kind of defeats the purpose of
these utils :) thanks.

That only applies to Windows 2000. I got that patch and another one that
applies to XP, however that one applies only to PRE-SP1 XP, it wouldn't
install. I'm using XP SP1 and/or Windows Server 2003 Standard, and both
versions of CACLS, and the 2003 support tools XCACLS still have this problem.

I have no idea how to get around this problem.
