Cable Modem vs computer problem

Hello! At home, we have had a cable modem which worked
just fine for 2 or 3 years. However, this summer, things
began going downhill. I am trying to figure out if it is
the wiring in our house leading to the modem or possibly
something with our computer, and I need your suggestions
please. We have tried 2 different hubs and 2 different
cable modems and the same thing happens. Sporadically,
the cable light on the modem will either go out
completely, flicker off and on, or turn red (it is
supposed to be solid green). It will go for a few days
just fine, then the problem will start again and we will
be without internet service for several days. The cable
guy has been out 4 times and tried different things.
Could it possible be something in our computer making this
happen, like the connection of the wire which goes to the
hub? It seems tight, and I have tried different wires. I
have even tried hooking the cable modem up directly to the
computer and bypassing the hub. Still nothing. I am not
very hardware savvy, so I'd really appreciate your help!
Thanks!

The signal level may be low, things to check are how many
cable boxes for your TV's? Some times the cable company
can route the cabling and the spliters in a way to get the
signal up to a useable level. In my case they rewired my
whole house, starting at the back to the front of the
house. My computer is in the back of the house. They also
remove any extra splitters that are not being used. The
more TV's and cable boxes running at one time will drop
signal level to the cable modem.
