We have a computer that is a client to a server on the LAN and this computer also has software for an intranet that is on cable. If I try to make the NIC card for the LAN active the intranet program tries to use that. Is there a way to set which connecton a program uses?

Make sure you client IP settings are correct. Also make sure that your
default gateway is set correctly. The Subnet mask and the default gateway
are what controls the traffic in this case.
