I am having problems running my anti-virus program because of the above named
file in Windows XP. This file keeps growing each day of computer operation
and I am unable to move or delete this file. The file is now about 1.5GB and
growing. I'd like to know what this file is and how to eliminate it, if
possible. I can delete it in the "safe" mode, but the file regenerates with
the next start up. The file is too large to open with Word or any word
processor program on my computer. The file profile shows it being created in
Aug 2006.

Mike, No, I use EZ AntiVirus. It comes with the Roadrunner web cable
connection.

Do you use "windows one care" as your anti-virus?

msnavpklog.txt is from a trojan. Trojan.Feat.2 or Troj/Dloader-AB. All AV
companies name malware with different names, I have no idea why.

UPDATE your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

UPDATE whatever anti-spyware applications that you have and run a full
system scan with each one.

You might want to start in Safe Mode to run your antivirus and anti-spyware
software.

Running a full system antivirus scan or anti-spyware scan in Safe Mode can
be a good idea. Some viruses and other malware like to conceal themselves
in areas Windows protects while using them. Safe mode can prevent those
applications access and therefore unprotect the viruses or other malware
allowing for easier removal.

''In safe mode, you have access to only basic files and drivers
(mouse, monitor, keyboard, mass storage, base video, default system
services), just the minimum device drivers required to start Windows.''

Because of that some malware does not load in Safe Mode and is easier to get
rid of.

Wesley, Thank you very much for the help. I'm extremely busy today and
tomorrow, but ASAP I'll take your suggestion. My anti-spy & anti-virus
programs are updated daily, but I've not tried to run them in the safe mode.
It's the anti-virus program that gets hung up on the file when I run it
weekly from Windows XP. I'm glad to know what the file is, and I'll do what's
necessary (I hope) to remove it. Thanks again, and I'll let you know how it
goes.

Wesley, I ran the "safe" mode scan yesterday, but the file and Trojan that
creates it were not removed. I contacted CA EZVirus (producers of my
anti-virus program) for help, but they gave me the same approach. I tried
looking at other sites for software that is aimed at that particular virus,
but none was helpful. Many want the "System Restore" files removed, and
turned off, before running the software, and I'm not sure I want to go that
far... yet. Any other suggestions will be appreciated and I thank you for
your help.

Malware can infect System Restore files. If any System Restore files are
infected, System Restore needs to be turned off so that the infected files
can be gotten rid of. System restore can be turned back on after everything
is clean.

It will do absolutely no good to clean everything else and leave infected
System Restore files, *if* they are infected. These infections can relaunch
if they are hiding in System Restore files.
