"C\...\isass.exe terminated unexpectedly with status code 128"

"...The system will now shut down and restart." My
friend is getting this message ("Initiated by NT
Authotiy/System") every time he boots up (XP Home
Edition). It is looping through star-->message-->shut
down-->restart-->message, etc., ad infinitum.
I hear this is viral.
How can I help him, please?
