C:drive crash Monday - Desperate to retrieve files; years of work; found
software company; downloaded & purchased Tuesday but their guidance doc could
not be found, + tel call to the States Support ticket raised etc; sent 3
times to email addresses supplied but came through corrupted - now no
support. I cannot identify which files I want to retrieve or even how to
retrieve is there anybody that can help please. Retrieval of files/docs is
now very very urgent (some of my husband's work needs to be found - don't
really want to type it all again!) Plus - is it true that my C: drive is now
no good (I've only just reloaded and updated all downloads) got email running
etc etc? Please tell me some good news. Skype contact: kejusam or 020 8133
8935.

The good news..

Your computer is working again..

The bad news..

You don't appear to have backups of anything..

By re-installing on the same drive, you have lessened your chances of
getting anything back..

OK.. if the files are really that important, you need to contact a company
specialising in file retrieval or you can try something like this..
http://www.pctools.com/file-recover/?ref=google_fr or this..
http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/UK/welcome.htm

What you must to is stop using your computer until such time as you have
retrieved your files..

Re. document types, if they were created in MS Word, you would look for
*.DOC files.. the file extension to find will be dependant on the
application that was used to produce it..

Good Luck

If you've reinstalled Windows, E-mail, etc. since the crash, almost
certainly there is no good news. Your chances of recovering anything now are
probably extremely poor. You could try one of the very expensive drive
recovery services, but under these circumstances, they probably can't help
either.

For the future, *never* rely on anything you write to the drive being there
when you need it. You are always vulnerable to head crashes, user errors
severe power glitches, nearby lightning strikes, virus attacks, even theft
of the computer. If your data is important to do, a program of regular
backups is imperative, and backups must be stored externally to the
computer.

Thank you - I thought I had a back-up of everything. By the looks of things
PC Inspector will be able to help - I've downloaded. As for not using my pc
- well I wouldn't be able to ask for advice then would I? As it is I have
not dared to create any docs etc until I had recovered my files safely. I
don't like to think I'm that stupid - the best of us make mistakes at times.
But thanks again for the link for PC Inspector.

Just use the backup cds you have been making for your important data.
