Buying an OEM version of XP for 40$

Hi everyone,

I found on the internet the following website, which
claims to sell OEM versions of XP for 40$.
http://oem-discounts.biz/

Are the products they sell legal versions of XP?
If I buy one of those, will I be able to use liveupdate?

If it isn't legal, is there a way I could get a legal
version of XP for about the same amount of money
somewhere else? I can't afford to pay much more than that
unfortunately.

No one in here can answer that, they may try cause it's
less than they paid for it and woe on the seller who can
sell it for less. If it's got a good key then it's good to

Recommend you do you research on exactly who this vendor is (say by
doing an internet "whois" query on the domain name), what it is they are
selling you, and waht the terms of an OEM license would be.

Only you can consider the risks involved.

I wouldn't touch it. If you only have $40 to spend, consider using
Linux which you can get for free. XP likely too expensive for you.

Read EVERYTHING on the website about support, shipping
and package. You are much better off searching other
shopping sites or local stores for software.

They have other sites under different names, but exactly the same. IMHO,
these are pirated versions of the real software. Some text from their site
that give it away:

This software is recognized as a backup software. (meaning its a copy of the
real retail software)

Note, that you will not be able to register the software with the
manufacturer and get their support.(why because it is a pirate version?)

We do guarantee that all programs are the 100% full working retail
versions - no demos or academic versions!(I thought they said they were oem
versions, now they say they are retail versions, or is it really just a
pirate copy of the retail version that they try to pass off as oem?)

The software is shipped from Eastern Europe.

I don't know anything about this particular company or particular
offer, but when you see something advertised for a price that far
below what everyone else is selling it for, it's hard to believe
it's on the up-and-up. I wouldn't chance it.

Sorry to hear you can't afford more, but I don't think it's worth
taking the risk if the price is that low.

If it's a OEM copy, there are certain limitations - you cannot call MS for
support, and you cannot uninstall it, and unactivate it with MS to move it
to another computer - in other words, that copy has to stay with the PC it
is initially activated on.
