Business Contacts Syncing with PDA

Guest

I too am a bit disolutioned with BCA not being able to sync. I spent a lot of
time creating contacts and accounts that I can no longer sync with. But, when
I try to copy them back into "Contacts" outlook won't let me as I have more
than 1000.

1) How can I move this information back into contacts?

2) I also heard that a download was available for multi-folder-syncing, is
this true?

Thanks for any help that's available.

try making a new contacts folder and see if you can copy them to it - then
copy them to the default folder. Also - are you trying to move all of them
at once? Try 50 at a time. Outlook in itself doesn't have a limit of 1000 -
Outlook 2003 supports unlimited if you use Unicode pst or 65000 with an ansi
pst and large table support enabled.

i'll send you another notice. Thanks again.

John,
Thanks for the link. I've noticed Microsoft is a bit hesitant to recomend
3rd party helps. But, I'll look into this link and try it out. Do you use
this software? If so, any problems with it? Thanks again.

Brian:

I purchased and used this software several generations ago, I think it was
version 3.2 or something. It worked very well when paired with their desktop
version of the software. Everything synched back and forth great - including
linked appointments, tasks, notes, etc.

They still offer a desktop version, but now I am firmly entrenched with
Outlook. I played briefly with this latest version, and while it does synch
Contacts, Accounts, and Opportunities, it does not synch the links to any
linked items, either way. So if in OL you create a linked task to an
opportunity, both the task and the opportunity will synch to Pocket
OnSchedule (POS), but not the link. The same thing happens in reverse. This
is, unfortunately, true of every Pocket Outlook PIM replacement I've ever
seen. I don't know if it is something about the way ActiveSync is
implemented, or if I'm about the only sales person geeky enough to want to
look at a contact in my PPC and be able to see all its linked items from the
desktop. In the Palm world, at least one product - Chapura - does seem to
synchronize the links between OL items. So I've chosen not to purchase POS,
or Pocket Informant, or Agenda Fusion or any of the others. According to the
information about BCM v2 there will be some amount of PPC sync in it
(including history), and maybe if ActiveSync is the culprit for the other
products that will be fixed in version 4.

Okay, soap box mode off. As for POS, if getting your Contacts, Accounts,
and Opportunities into your PPC is important, it does do that. You can go to
their site and download a trial version...

I can't tell you how greatful I am for people like you who search this stuff
out and actually try it. I too, am deeply entrenched into Outlook since my
first palm IIIxe (whoa). If I were to gripe a bit, you'd think MS would get
these updates figured out and downloadable sooner than they do! I've always
been amazed the leader of the software world isn't a bit quicker on fixing
these solutions. Either way, the frustrating part for guys like me who are MS
loyalist is that sometimes we're stuck with software that doesn't do what it
is suppose to do. Thanks again for the help, you mentioned several options
that I'll be investigating.

There is no question there are a lot of great products that Microsoft has
created like Visio for example. However, for a CRM program I don't find that
Outlook BCM makes the mark. Business Contact Management in Outlook to me
seems like a program within a program. The program seems very "bogged" down
because of this. I think MS would have served it's business customers much
better by totally redesigning Outlook as a complete CRM solution and left a
simplier Outlook for it's regular users. I have been a long time user of
Maximizer CRM and personally find that Outlook with Business Contact
Management does not hold a candle to it for speed or anything else. I do like
Word and Excel is great and both fully integrate with my CRM, not to mention
also sync great with the Palm.

Just my 2 cents worth!

Here is another "Outlook-Centric" alternative to BCM. www.avidian.com
