Can anyone reccomend a freeware program for these? I have tried Lazlab,
but it isn't the best of programs to work with. I just need something
fairly basic, so I can put my name, address, phone, mobile and e-mail
address on. Also possibly a little picture at the side, or faint
watermark type picture as background. (probably black and white.)

Design Pro 5 Limited

DesignPro Limited includes the same Avery Product templates
as DesignPro Deluxe. This version includes a limited selection
of pre-designed templates, graphic images and fonts available
in the full version.

I use this for address labels, and it's great. I believe it will do
Business Cards too.

- Customize and print professional looking labels, cards, dividers and
more in minutes!
- More Avery Templates than any other software
- More than 2,200 pre-designed Avery Templates.
- Import your own graphics or use the 3,400 images included (*)
- Includes step-by-step project wizard, built-in photo editing, mail
merge, text curving and more

Note: (*) Limited & SE versions have fewer pre-designed templates and
images

That should be fun on my dial up. From what you all say though it is
worth it. Will give it a whirl. Thanks all.

Yah, she big. I'd suggest using a download manager -- my fave is
FlashGet. With it, you can split the download into up to 10
simultaneous streams. It'll speed up your download like you wouldn't
believe. Plus, if the Avery site allows resumable downloads, like most
sites do, you can pause/close the download & restart it at a later
date. It'll create a temp file with the extension .JC! [it used to be
called JetCar] until download is completed. You can also schedule
downloads in FlashGet, like to start at 3AM or whatever. It's
Shareware/AdWare until registered. The Ads may slow down your PC a bit,
though; they're not the obnoxious adware sorts that do strange things
to your 'puter.

Nothing beats using a download manager, esp for biggies like Avery
Label. Nothing's worse than being on a dialup & having it crap out when
you've almost finished d/l that file.

Also, there are MANY other download managers out there, many are free.

Fwiw;

I downloaded Avery DesignPro 5 Limited, ran an update and printed up
some *very* spiffy bizi-cards in a couple of hours (would've taken less
if I were less retentive <cough>). In other words, 'tis a good proggy.

Caveat: I clicked right through the license so I may've inadvertently
given up my first-born.

I already use Net Transport. No Spyware/Adware/Malware. In my opinion
after trying them all out this is the best and fastest.

After all the reports on this program, and being fortunate that it
downloaded quicker than I thought I have given it a whirl. Sadly I have
been disappointed in it. There doesn't seem to be a function for
choosing borders. Like Ragtime Solo, you have to make your own with
rectangles and "fill." Seems my old 95 version of Ready designs Labels
isn't so bad after all. Not only does it have a good selection of Avery
templates, there is a mulitude of clip art, photos, decorative texts,
borders and so on. Just thought there might be something out there with
technology moving on that was comparable and had the edge.
Thanks though for the help, I will keep Avery Design Pro 5 Ltd, as it
will be good for other things, although not for what I wanted.
