Burning Issues

I have a LG CD-RW CED-8080B 8x-4x-32x, It will see the disks and will get
through the burn process using windows wizard, until it acually starts to
burn then comes up and says that the disk is full or not writable. Windows
only recognizes the drive as CD-Rom in my computer. I'm not new to XP or
Burning cd's. the cd's im using are 4x-10x, which i think should work fine. i
have tried many burning software including nero. I have tried to upgrade
drivers and firmware, with no results. I have all the current windows
updates. I have tried another CD-RW drive and the problem is still there.

The machine is running XP home. Version 2002 Service pack 2, 1ghz, 512 mb ram.

Im runing out of hair to pull out please let me know of anything that might
help.

Have you switched media? With regards to firmware, do you mean that you
couldn'f find an update, or that the update didn't help? If it's the
former. try here http://www.cdfreaks.com/drive/firmware/918

What is the model ot the other cdrw drive? If it's from the same era it
may suffer form the same compaitibility problems.

Another thing to check is the jumper settings and cabling. Even if you
checked before, it couldn't hurt.

A good basic CD burning program I've used with good sucess is
burnatonce. There is an option to force execution.

I've had this same problem with 2 machines. Did you by any chance use
Roxio softare? If so you're not going to want to know it but the only
way I found to fix the problem was to re-install XP. Believe me I
spent weeks on this, tried EVERY suggestion on EVERY website. It came
down to a clean install.

No I am trying to use windows built in cd burning, im haveing same issue on
my other machine its a windows 2000 with Samsung CD/DVDW TS-H552U drive and
windows only see's it as a cd-rom, Its becoming a pain, any other ideas?

I Forget if i mentioned it but the first machine is windows xp home, version
2002 with service pack 2, and all current updates, it gets updated from web
site by hand every day.

This seems to be a windows issue not a drive issue.
Is there maybe a patch for this if not might anyone know how to find a fix?
I can't format the machines because i have no way to backup data w/out the
burners.

Have you done the troubleshooting steps I posted earlier? Have you
tried a different burner? To backup data get a thumb drive or a
external USB driver.
