Bundled Software Removal

Hi,

I have a Sony VIAO Laptop PCG FX340 and has bundled software which resides
on drive C. The hard drive is partitioned into C (6GB and D 9GB).

I am down to only 330 MB on C and can not do a disk defrag (needs 15% free)
and no room for Windows SP2.

I would like to uninstall the bundlewd software and then reinstall on drive
D but can not find the programs in the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS list, nor is there
an uninstal in the actual programs.

I have Windows XP Home Edition and have lots of memory.

I have removed all programs that I can from C but still only 330MB

Hope someone can tell me how to uninstal them if that is possible and if
not, can I change the partitioning so that there is just a C drive to get me
more space

Thanks

Hi Wesley,

Thanks a lot for the response.

The bundled programs are:
1. Sony Digital Print
2. Sony DVgate
3. Sony MovieShaker
4. Sony OpeningMG Jukebox
5. Sony PictureGear
6. Sony SonicStage
7. Sony Smart Capture
8. Sony VisualFlow
9. VIA Support Agent
WinDVD 3.

Duncan,

If you do not use any of those programs I do not see why you shouldn't be
able to remove them.

Hi Wesley,

I would like to keep the bundled programs, just not on the C drive.

My concern is that I may cause serious problems by uninstalling them from C
especially as they are not uninstallable in the normal way. Perhaps they did
this on purpose so that we would not uninstall. Do you have any idea why this
would be set up this way?

My goal is to get back space on C

Thanks

Duncan

Uninstalling them isn't going the be the biggest hurdle. Once you get them
uninstalled, how are you going to reinstall them? If you got a recovery CD
with your Sony, chances are you aren't going to get any choice as to where
the programs go, and you may not even have a choice of reinstalling them
separately; you may only be able to do a complete recovery, back to the way
the computer was when you first got it.

You might be better off moving other things to the D drive, if you can--
things that you have installation disks for. You can also move your data to
the D drive.

But really, you have a pretty small hard drive to begin with. No matter what
you do, you're going to be running out of space.

Duncan, my Sony is not a Laptop (RZ16G) but all the bundled software you
mentioned shows up in my Add/Remove List. I removed everything except your
numbers 6, 8 and 9 with no adverse problems. You should have got a
applications CD(s). With those you can reinstall/fix any application at
anytime. I've removed PowerDVD and reinstalled it from these disk several
times. I can't foresee you having a problem uninstalling some of them you
never use. Some of them are MickeyMouse (MovieShaker) anyway.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your input.

I will look for a program that will let me uninstall the bundled software. I
will uninstall one program and then use the Application recovery disk and see
if I can install it on the D drive.

Duncan

Duncan, let me/us know how you make out. I have never tried it myself, but
if it works I may try and free up some of my C drive. My D drive is almost
empty.
