Bullets and numbering

I'm working on updating a document with text followed by bullets. Some of my
bullets have more space/tab between the bullet and the word than others. How
do I make them all consistent? Thanks.

Try selecting the bullets, removing them, and then re-applying the bullets.

I tried that several times. It didn't work. There's a four-inch gap between
the bullet and the first word...and no easily apparent way to correct it!!!!

Select the paragraphs in question.Format > Bullets & Numbering > Customize.
or modify the bulleted paragraph style.
