Bullet indents

I would like to change bullet indentation but can't find where I can do it.
Currently I am changing every bullet manually with the ruler, but I want to
define a new bullet with the indentation I want. I tried the define new
bullet dialogue box but it doesn't have indentation control. It only has
controls for picture, font, symbol, etc., which I don't care about.

Thanks.

Hi,

From your description, I assume that you are using Word 2007. If you added
the bullets by clicking on the Bullets button in the Ribbon or by pressing
Ctrl+Shift+L, you can change the indenting. Right-click within a bulleted
paragraph and click Adjust List Indents. Set the desired indents and click
OK. All the bulleted lists that you started in the same way should be changed
to the settings that you entered.

If you want to have several indent levels, I suggest that you create a style
with the desired type of bullet and paragraph indenting for each level.

Thanks.

But the problem is I can't reuse the new bullet format. It can change the
paragraph I already bulleted, but if i want to put a bullet to a new
paragraph I have to do that adjusting all over again. What I want to do is to
define a new bullet that keeps the format I have used so I can keep using it
for new paragraphs. That is what I am asking. Thanks.

As Pesach suggested, make use of a bulleted style. For example: Select a
bulleted paragraph that has the desired formatting. In the Styles pane
(Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S), click the New Style button, and type in a name for the
style. Click OK. Make sure to apply the style to all paragraphs that should
have the corresponding bullet formatting.

Thanks. I have defined a new style. But it still doesn't appear in the
bullets list, which includes the Bullet library and recently used bullets.
When I click one of the bullets in the bullet list, I still get the same bad
bullet. When I tried the bullet list right after defining the new bullet
style, though, I got some message that mentioned the new style and asked if I
wanted to continue. Sorry I didn't really understand the message clearly and
just clicked yes. Then I am left with the same bad bullet in the bullet list.

Just apply the style to text whenever you want that bullet format. You can
use the Styles pane or the Apply Styles pane (Ctrl+Shift+S) to apply a style.

Note that the bullet library can only be used to store bullet *symbols*, not
the indentation that you want, so it won't be useful for your purposes,
anyway.
