BUG w/ Media Player 10??

I am having an issue since installing Media Player 10 where the first maybe
1/2 a second to 1 second of a song is cut off.

This isn't an issue if there is enough silence in the beginning of the song
to compensate for it... but I have lots songs that start right away and
played fine in WMP9, but are cut off in WMP10.

Is there any option or registry tweak I can do to fix this?

I have a fast machine with 1GB of RAM and a 2.4Ghz CPU, so that can't be
it...

Maybe 1 in 10 tries the song will start correctly.

Where are you playing the songs from? Your drives Library files, CD, Internet, ???

They are .MP3s played from my C: hard drive by double clicking on them in the 'My Music' folder. I am running Windows XP SP2. I defragged my hard drive and it is a fast hard drive as well. A 10,000 RPM Ultra160 SCSI hard drive w/ 8MB cache and 3.5ms access time.

I can find no setting within MP that may cause this. I play my MP3s over a wireless network from one of my other computers and there is no lag here or on the computer where the files are housed. I did apply a 1/2 second pause at the beginning of all my MP3s when I converted them. Have you the software to try this? What bitrate are the MP3s?

Another test - Put a few MP#s in your Now Playing tab and click on each one of them from there and see if the lag is still there,

All my mp3s are added to the library. I tried playing them:

1) double clicking in my music folder
2) right clicking play in my music folder
3) double clicking in the Now Playing List
4) opening from menu

I also tried various other stuff like:

1) double clicking the mp3 in my music folder that was already playing to restart it
2) loading it, then hitting stop, then play
3) messed with buffer options
4) messed with connection speed
5) turned off media info retrieval

I only have about 70 mp3s right now (I only get songs I want, not whole albums), and I went through all of them. Out of the 70, about 5 to 10 have a few notes cut off at the beginning.

They are various hi-quality/hi-bit rates. Most of my mp3 I usally get are in the 4MB,5MB,6MB range.

You mentioned software that can insert silence at the beginning? Is there any freeware on the net that can insert fractions of a second of silence into MP3s? or would they need to be decompressed to WAVs first?

Another test - Put a few MP#s in your Now Playing tab and click on each one of them from there and see if the lag is still there,

Ok, thanks. I found "Audacity". Kind of slows... takes 30 seconds to import and 30 seconds to export (vs. mp3trim which takes 1 to 2 seconds, but only removes silence, doesn't insert it), but does what I need.

Thanks for the help.

I really think WMP should have this option built in, but hey...
