Bug: Start Page Online Resources

M

Mario

Hi,

I'm experiencing a nasty problem with Visual Studio .Net 2003.

Most Online Resources in the Start Page doesnt work, showing the following
message:

"This feature requires that you have connected to the internet previously or
are currently online"

Resources that doesn't work: Online Community, Headlines, Downloads, XML Web
Services, and Web Hosting.
Resources that work: Get Started, What's New, and Search Online.

Of course I'm connected to the Internet, with my ethernet cable modem (that
requires no dial-up). No firewall is blocking comunications. And if the
resource Search Online works fine, there is no reason for the other
resources to show that message.

What looks to me is that if VS.Net 2003 doesnt check properly if there is a
connection or not it was better to not check at all.

So what can I do to access the Online Resources? Any patch, trick?
Any way to turn off that bugsy detection?
Can I browse the same online resources with IE? If so what are the Urls?

Thank you very much,
Mario

This problem can be caused by several things. Two of the most common problems can be fixed as follows:

1. In IE, go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Languages. If English is not listed, add it to the list.

2. Make sure that the filter is set to (none) in the "What's New" page. If not set to (none), change it to (none) and refresh page.

Try these, and if they don't fix the problem, please reply to this post.

Unfortunately, there is to way to view these resources using just a plain web browser.
