What has this to do with Windows XP and/or Microsoft?! It doesn't take a
three-figure IQ to fathom out that if one is having problems with *BT*
Broadband, then one should contact...

I think you can figure out the rest...

Well usually you don't sign on to broadband, especially cable, so I assume
the op is taking about when they sign on to a user from the welcome screen
that they get signed back out right away. I problem I've seen posted in the
groups before.(sorry I don't have the fix right now). Not sure why they said
the prob is with BT, I think they are just a newbie and not sure what
they're talking about, but thats no reason to bite their head off.

Do you have the msblaster virus? What does a scan with a current
antivirus program (meaning a version not later than 2002 and using
updated virus definitions) show?

I assume you mean that when you start yr pc it starts, connects yr internet
access then immediately terminates the connection? - any warning msg?
Check that yr Firewall (see help) is enabled
Ensure you have all XP critical updates (Start/WinUpdate)
Ensure you have a current AntiVirus App, and that the deffinitions are
current
See

for online scanning of pc

I saw a BT broadband installation briefly at the neighbour's a few weeks
ago. I noticed there was a "sign-on" which surprised me. I didn't
pursue to find it what it was about, but there definiitely is some sort
of "sign-on" with BT. Why, I don't know.

OP should call BT (as others have suggested).

It must be because it looks like it is ADSL and not cable. I just checked
their site. Many DSL broadband connections still need to connect.
