Two XP Pro SP2 PCs on client's network started to get this BSOD error at
about the same time. Totally different hardware. Happens randomly and PCs
run OK most of the time. Subsidiary errors are: 0xc07c1718, 0xc000000e,
0xf82e3384, 0x1799f860. Atapi.sys is mentioned in stop error. My research
so far would indicate that error may be caused by:

1. Bad sector in VM page file
2. Disk controller error
3. Virus infection
4. Bad RAM
5. Depleted non-paged pool resources (rare)

Seems unlikely to me that two different PCs would start developing any of
the hardware-related causes at the same time, so this leaves possibly 3. &
5.

May be related to the installation of TM PC-Cillin since issue started
shortly after this was installed (but only on these two PCs).

Anyone got any ideas?

Hi Rick,

Thanks for your speedy response. That was going to be the next step, but I
am concerned about leaving these PCs vulnerable to attack. The BSOD only
occurs maybe once or twice a week so they might be without protection for a
couple of days.

Cheers,
Bill

Hi Bill,

It's a logical next step. As a countermeasure, you could install a freebie
as a temporary solution (like AVG from grisoft.com or the trial version from
CA).
