BSOD on Windows Load - GDI32.DLL Corrupt

J

Jason

Hello, and thank you in advance. On a clients computer,
just randomly, on Windows XP Pro load in both regular
mode and safe mode,I get the BSOD stating that GDI32.DLL
is possibly corrupt, and C0000221 Bad Image Checksum. I
am suspecting either the video card or harddrive has gone
bad.

Nothing has been done to the computer, just regular use.
I think the PC is sounding a little louder than normal
too. But I havent cracked the case.

Any thoughts??

Possible solution

The most common solution I see is as follows

Boot Recovery Console

rename c:\windows\system32\gdi32.dll to gdi32.dll.old

copy c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\gdi32.dll to c:\windows\system32\gdi32.dll

reboot.

Seems to work..

Problems noted: This happens after XP SP3 on some systems, providing a CRC error on GDI32.DLL, or simply rebooting. Since it is such a simple blue screen, you may not even see it flash by...

AMD systems are also troubled by receiving the intel power management drivers along with the AMD since they are both in the service pack.. but Windows is supposed to ignore the non-needed set..

Hope this helps.. (has here 2 times..)
