Hi

After experiencing frequent and sudden rebooting I followed the advice of
some posters here (thanks everyone!) and particularly one Harry Ohrn who
suggested to turn
off the "Automatic Restart" option so that when an error occurs I'll get a
blue screen instead.
Flaky memory was one suggestion. I have 1x512. Tried two other working 512's
as well but the problem still exists

Here are the error's reported.

P4 2.4Ghz,
512MB DDR400 Jetram
Gigabyte Board with VIA chipset
80GB Seagate IDE

A-OPEN 300w Power Supply

WINXP SP2 and OFFICE2003 and FSECURE Anti Virus, in all instances all
available updates have been applied
Have formatted several times

Have ruled out overheating, memory, adware and viruses

any ideas ?

Possibly a newer BIOS Firmware Flash update (Read Change Log)
BIOS settings related to Memory Timing too aggressive.
Check Device Manager (Show Hidden) for Device Enumeration
problems (Presence of Other Category).

This is a hardware issue: an unrecoverable hardware error has occurred. The
parameters have different meanings depending on what type of CPU you have
but, while diagnostic, rarely lead to a clear solution. Most commonly it
results from overheating, from failed hardware (RAM, CPU, hardware bus,
power supply, etc.), or from pushing hardware beyond its capabilities (e.g.,

Thanks all. That website link really helped to convince me i need to take
this machine back to the supplier

I do not indulge in overclocking or changing BIOS settings so i think it's
definately hardware and it's for the vendor
to troubleshoot further and replace what needs to be replaced.

Did you run a program like memtest86+ or just try some different ram? While
the ram itself may be OK, how the ram is accessed may not be. I would try
letting a program like memtest86+ run overnight. You could download the
Ultimate Boot CD http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ There are several good
programs for testing various hardware items on the CD.

Take a look at the capacitors on your motherboard. There was a period when
bad caps would give all sorts of problems. Check for bulging tops and junk
leaking out. Just had one like that last week.

Stop codes procedures are listed in the XP Resource Kit here:

Personally, I recommend doing a Google search with the entire STOP Code -
then backing off on the extra parameters - inside the quotes - to get some
results. Once you've found the results that you need you can refine your
search by adding some info about your system to the search criteria.

The suggestion above for MemTest86 is a good one - frequently memory
problems show up this way. Any errors at all in MemTest86 means that that
module is having problems.
