BSOD 0xBE when attempting to log onto vista vpn

I recently ordered a laptop and am attempting to set up a vpn. After setting
up my Vista Ultimate Desktop as the server and the Vista Home Premium laptop
as the client, I attempted to log on.

I had already turned all firewalls (2wire router and generic windows) on my
desktop off to ensure an easy test run, but when the laptop connected to the
vpn the desktop entered BSOD 0xBE and blamed ndis.sys.

Any advice would be appreciated since the windows knowledge database does
not have any entries for 0xBE on Vista yet. So I don't even know where to
start.
