Hi
I have been doing small webpages for a while. I am
currently doing my business website and have run into a
BIG problem. When I put pictures on my site and they are
viewed by other people, some of them (especially those
with AOL) come out blurred, distorted, discolored, etc.
Is there anyway I can insure that my pictures are correct
on all browsers..........it looks very unprofessional,
and could conceivably put a halt to my business. Please
help, this is HIGH PRIORITY.

Thanks
Sherri

Sherri,

Unfortunately by default, the older aol versions compress
images in the browser (Not sure if the new version also
defaults to compress images). The only way for this to
change is for users to change their settings.

Even IE 6 will reduce a large image.

The only thing you can really do is to create quality
content for your site, as the majority of the people will
probably see it fine.

Good Luck on the website,
JDR

Use an image editing program to resize the
images to the exact dimensions used on the page.

For example, if you use and image that is actually
200 by 400 and force the size to 100 by 200
using the html height and width settings you are forcing the
browser to resize the image.
This will impair image quality.

Among others, the free utility named IrfanView will
resize images for you.

AOL has a setting that automatically tweaks photos. If I don't have
compression turned off, there's nothing you can do to make your pictures
look better to me.

Plus you have to remember that some people have low-end graphics chips or
cheap monitors. There no way around that. Unfortunately you can only do the
best you can - you can't control everything else. Sorry.

Yes - but it doesn't do any compression. It just resizes them the same way
as HTML height & width attributes.

First of all, the images must be properly done in an image editor program
optimized for the best quality.

Secondly, you must first File | Import them into your FP web before
inserting on a page. If you simply insert them from a file on your hard
drive, FP will manipulate the quality.

Thirdly, AOL adds more compression to the images for their users for faster
download speed, and causes about a 40% or more deterioation in quality. You
may wish to look at AOL Guide for Webmasters
