Browser Help Object programs

I am besieged by a continuing parade of these pests, and am
blocking each manually.
Is there a way that I can set the program to block them
automatically?

Have you upgraded to SP2 yet? If so, open IE--->Tools--->Manage Add-ons and
disabling suspicious BHO's.
