First of all, just want to clarify it is an ADSL and not DSL USB modem
I have got.

However, if I were to get a Router, how could I plug the USB ADSL
modem into
the router? The "intput" to the USB ADSL Modem is a phoneline, the
output
is a USB connection? The intput/output to a router are Cat-5
connections, right?

Look for a router with a USB connection. Many have them.

Not to mention that almost every broadband modem I have ever seen or
read specs on has at LEAST an RJ45 connector for ethernet, or both
that AND a USB connection. The ethernet port is much more prevalant.

Which Properties->Advanced are you referring to where I can set 'Allow
others to connect through. . .' (on the host machine).

Network Connections, right click the connection icon for the one
connecting to the Internet, Properties, Advanced

Hang on a minute....
If I have the following listed on my "Network Connections
USB ADSL Modem
100Base T LAN Connection (for connection from client PCs via UTP Cross Over
cables)

All I need to do is to enable internet connection sharing on the USB ADSL
Modem and no other settings on the host and client PC (note that one of the
PC is running only windows 98!)

That is right. So that is the one to start by right clicking. It will
then set up the IP address on your LAN connection as the 192.168.0.0 -
and you will have to adjust the one on the Win98 machine to use say
192.168.0 10 - connecting to internet through LAN. That is all you need
do at the XP end, aside from making sure any firewall sees the LAN one
as 'Trusted'. The SP2 firewall you should take the Advanced page and
uncheck the entry for that connection

I never really set this up when I had win98, you may need to ask in the
microsoft.public.win98 .internet or .networking groups
