Hi all

Having a problem that I am now pulling my hair out over ..

A couple of weeks ago, my cable modem started to periodicly disconnec
... however, all the lights on the modem stay on and nothing seems ou
of the ordinary unless I click on a web page and get the "page canno
be displayed error" .. or if I'm doing something on line (ie. gaming
everything just stops ..

Then .. after about 30 seconds .. it comes back and everything work
fine once more until the next time (sometimes 5 minutes later
sometimes 5 hours)

I've checked with my ISP and they have ran diagnostics their end an
said evertything is fine.

In saying that, my problems seemed to coincide with my ISP upping m
speed from 600k to 750k .. this disconnects roughly began at the sam
time. However, this may just be coincidence.

I've done virus checks, spyware checks and every is fine, I've done
system restore to a time before the disconnects began .. yet it stil
continues.

After every loss of of connection I'm getting assigned a new (valid) I
address which does indicate to me that connection IS being lost .
somewhere ..

System Specs :

P4 .. 2.2
768mb ram
Win Xp home
Win service pack 1a
Terayon Cable Modem on USB
which is now running at 750K

I've had one suggestion saying I should switch to an Ethernet card a
USB isn't really designed for permanant use (I never switch my cabl
off) .. though I'm not yet 100% convinced that this is the issue - it'
worked fine for 2years with a USB connection .. altho, I am open t
persuasion :)

So if anyone as any ideas, I'd be grateful ..

Thx in advanc

This is not an XP problem, but a cable system problem, IMO. It is
unfortunate that the tareyon modems do not have any signal diagnostics,
so you will need a service call to isolate the problem. I am guessing
that your upstream power level is at the edge of acceptability. It
could be the modem, but more likely is a physical line problem - an
insulation break, loose connection, improper ground, water in the line,
etc. Only a service call will reveal the problem. The upgrade probably
exacerbated an existing condition.
