For the past 5 days, I have been unable to use my
broadband connection to the internet. When contacted
Optimum Online tech, his aid determined that his end was
in working order, but rec'd error message that "operation
attempted something that is not a socket." He said
Microsoft knew how to fix winsocket error. Can anyone
help? Thank you.

The standard fix is to turn off your all your computers, router and cable
modem. Disconnect the cable modem from the cable for 3+ minutes. Then,
reconnect the cable modem to the cable and power it up. Follow with your
router if you have one. Then, each computer. The cable management system
will "provision" your system(s) and you should be able to run again.

I got tired of this a few years back and bought a cheap uninterruptible
power supply for the cable modem and my router. This has eliminated 99% of
the problems.
