Bring Horizontal Span back please!

What happened to Horizontal Span display mode?

As a graphics designer Horizontal Span is a must have for me. Dual Mode just
doesn't cut it with apps I use. And it's very annoying for games that I
enjoy(ed) playing across two screens.
What can we do to get it re-instated? A petition? Email?

Horizontal Span? Do you mean being able to extend your desktop over more
than one monitor? Of course it hasn't gone. You have to enable it in
Display Properties.

You might be interested in using UltraMon as well. www.ultramon.com

Horizontal Span IS NOT the same as Extended Desktop. Extended Desktop is
basically Dual View. In Vista there are only two options now: Dual View (w/
extended desktop) and Clone.

With Horizontal Span I could get a resolution of say 2560x1024 if I have two
monitors supporting 1280x1024 each. The start menu would span BOTH screens.
When application windows are maximized they stretch across the two displays
rather than the confines of one monitor as is the case with extended mode.

In games on XP I could get dual screen resolutions in the video options when
Horizontal Mode was enabled. In Vista the same game only provides the options
for one display. It is not a video card problem either. According to nVidia
Microsoft dropped Horizontal Span due to the internal architecture of Vista.
Tehy say Microsoft needs to bring it back. And I agree.

I agree with this. Horizontal span is essential for any but the newest games
if you want to play with two screens. Case in point: GTR2, rFactor, Race 07.
I'm sure the coders can rig up something to at least emulate the effect so
that old games can still run dualscreen (as ultramon solves this problem for
most programs).

I really would like to see Microsoft at least acknowledge these posts.

Really I`m not anti Microsoft geek but after buying 2 24 inches monitor, new
HDD and Vista Premium and NVidia card and after desperate search I found out
that horizontal span gone!!! You are joking. All cost me a lot of money and I
did it because of MSFS X and Dirext X X. All product legal and paid. What
disappointment, Microsoft!

I have the ability to connect two monitors and make the display span between
them. This feature has NOT been removed from Windows. Open the "Help and
Support" tool and search for "dual monitor", where you will find tons of
information on setting it up and troubleshooting when it doesn't work.

Does your machine have TWO DVI connectors exposed? There is a chance that it
may have just one but it is still not a loss. Your configuration is
different and I have to buy a splitter.

Some splitters are sold with very curt description and claims that they are
dual but the duality for them means a different thing. The wiring is such
that the two monitors show the same picture. And in this case there is
nothing you can do. Beware.

Such "dual" split cables may be used for demonstrations when a teacher does
something on one machine and a group of students may be watching the same
action on a parallel monitor. You need a different one. I do no think they
have an identifiable name. they are also dual.

I know you do not realise this, but what you are talking about is
irrelevant.
