Brew your own autonumber

Hello,

How would I go about setting up a custom autonumber in a replicated
database? I need to affix a letter to the begining of a sequencial number -
which letter depends on which office the record is entered from. If its from
our main office, i'd like to add "a", if from our secondary office, i'd like
to add "b". Does anyone have any suggestions?
