boxes with red x's

My internet provider recently changed their DSL modem to a
faster Westell modem, but now I keep getting a lot of
boxes with red x's in them. Most are pictures some are
buttons. My ISP believes it to be an IE 6 problem. Does
anyone have any thoughts on the subject?

I'm having same problem for 2 weeks, since install of XP
SP1 & security. No hardware change preempted this problem
in my case.

I found two 'similar' items in MS's Knowledge Base, but
can't verify exact match on symptoms.

My IE6 SP1 loads 'some' JPG & GIF images, aand will load
the 'red x' image if I right-click then select 'show
image'. What a pain... Netscape works fine, as usual!

If anyone has resolution?

Are you using a Firewall or "filtering software"?

Several of these are known to cause problems:
1) Zone Alarm Pro [Private Header Info - enabled?]
Reset "Ad Blocking" and "Cookie Control" to "medium"
"Mobile Code Control" = Off

2) Symantec (ISS\NIS)[Enable Browser Privacy - enabled]
Active Content - "Allow All Script To Execute"
Problem: some sites cannot detect the 128 bit encryption
Solution: Completely remove and reinstall NIS.

3) Any "ad blocking" software that blocks "http_referer"
or contains entries that are blocking access to the desired site.

4) HOSTS file that contains entries that are blocking access to the desired
site.
Symtom: Page cannot be displayed / Cannot find server or DNS Error

In the event you can not access a site or missing graphics and
you believe it may be due to an entry in the HOSTS file.

You can use a simple batch file to rename the HOSTS file "on-the-fly".

Wes,
You may need to clear your TIF as you may have a corrupt file there.

Close all instances of OE and IE
Control Panel | Internet Options | General tab
Click the "Delete Files" button, when prompted place a check in:
"Delete all offline content", click OK
Click the "Clear History" button, click OK.
Click the Settings button, adjust the TIF size to 50 mb, click OK
