Box with rounded corners

Hi,

The other day I was looking at a Word document on a friend's pc that had
been sent to her by a company. I was intrigued to see a box in the document
that had rounded corners with text inside, but which did not appear to be
created from an autoshape (When I held the "What's this" pointer over it to
reveal the formatting it was identified as "boxed text".) How did they
create this? I can not repeat this effect (the rounded corners) either with
text boxes, tables or by adding a box border to text or paragraphs.

Thanks,

Adrian

I've never heard of anything like this unless it was introduced in Word
2003, which I don't yet have. Could it be something produced by an add-in?

Thanks Suzanne,

A few weeks ago, I commented to a colleague that it would be great if the
next version of Word were to let you create tables and borders with rounded
corners, so I was quite surprised when I saw this...I'll try and get hold of
the document in question and get back to the group.

Boxes are shapes. In Word 2002/2003, draw a normal text box, then click on
the Drawing toolbar and choose Change AutoShape | Basic Shapes. The one you
want is in the first column, second row. Once it changes, you can adjust
just how rounded you want the corners.

Thanks Rick, but I knew this already; that's what I meant when I said it did
not appear to be created from an autoshape. If you follow your own
instructions and then click on the text with the "What's this" pointer to
reveal the formatting it does not say "boxed text" anywhere.

Thanks for all the replies.

I found out that the document was created in Word 95 and the box is indeed
an autoshape. In Word 95, the paragraph format of text in such autoshapes
has the description "boxed text". That's what you see when you open the
document in Word 2002 and examine the formatting with the "What's this?"
pointer. However, it seems that Microsoft has dropped this naming; the
format for text in autoshapes in Word 2002 documents is not labelled as
"boxed text". That's where the confusion came from.

Shame...given the way that software interfaces are going, I had hoped that
what I had seen was an example of Word following suit with rounded corner
functionality in tables.
