borders and shading

When I use shading to highlight a heading, I would like
the shading to go all the way across the page even though
the text does not. How do I do this? thanks in advance

I assume by "all the way across the page" you mean from edge to edge, not
from margin to margin, which shading already does. You can accomplish a
certain amount using the "Distance from text" option on the borders tab if
you apply a matching (or white) border to the shaded paragraph, but that
won't get you from the margin to the edge. Of course, your printer likely
won't print to the edge, anyway. You can "outdent" the paragraph (give it
negative indents) and then use a tab to indent the text, but that's rather
crude. You could use a wide table cell, shaded, with cell padding or
paragraph indents to bring the text back to the margin area. Do any of these
suggestions give you any ideas?

Michelle,
Maybe you just selected the text of the heading and not the whole paragraph
when you applied the shading?
