Bootup stalls

After what seems like a successful install my computer is stalling during
bootup on the splash screen. I am waiting about 10 minutes. Do I need to
wait longer? Do I need to install drivers when I format the HD. Where do I
find them. I tried installing drivers from my restore disks but the Vista
install program couldn't read them. I am installing on a Sony VAIO PCV-RX450
desktop with 512MB RAM and a 1GB AMD processor.

If you have a USB drive connected to your computer disconnect it when
starting Vista.

I had a simalar issue and discovered if I boot in safe mode it would hang on
crcdisk.sys, turning off the usb drive solved my problem.
