Bootup slowed down by DVD drive?

My Win2k bootup time is very slow. At the logo screen, the progress bar gets
stuck at about 75% for rougly 45 seconds. I've noticed that if I unplug my
DVD drive, this no longer occurs and I'm in Windows within 15 seconds from
power-on. My drive is a Lite-On LDW-411S with latest firmware.

Is the DVD on its own IDE cable? Are ALL the drive configuration jumpers
set correctly on the drive AND any drive sharing the cable?

DVD is sharing the cable with a hard drive. The HD is master, the DVD is
slave. All jumpers are set correctly. I used to have the DVD as master and
the hd as slave, but in this configuration, the DVD would not appear in
Windows at all.

I think in that case you still have hardware configuration issues. Maybe
there is the BIOS setting for the DVD causing an issue or the firmware.
Since it would not be seen at all in the master position and takes a
long time to recognize in slave, the issue is not an OS issue but one of
hardware.
