when I boot up my computer (in regular or safe mode), it boots up (after a LONG time), flashes my desktop wall paper, and goes to the log on screen. when I click my log on name, it says it's loading my personal settings, and then it says it's logging off. that's as far as I can get. any suggestions?

thanks for the attempt but the first link didn't work, and the second link only acknowledges there's a problem but not how to fix it.

The second link did give a way to fix it. You have to contact microsoft
support for the hotfix. When you say the first link didn't work, do you
mean the actual link didn't work or the resolution it provided didn't?
