Booting off Floppy in A:

I'm trying to boot off a bootable floppy in Drive A (connected to my laptop
via a USB port). I reset the BIOS to a boot sequence of FDD-HDD-CD-ROM etc.,
rebooted and the standard WindowsXP sequence unfolded; i.e. the floppy was
bypassed.

have checked the floppy and the disk and all seems okay on that end. What am
I not doing?

Thanks!

PS. The bootable floppy contains a Hitachi Utility to test my HD.

WindowsXP|Pro, 1 GB RAM

I would check with my motherboard specs on the laptop

FDD is usually considered hard wired FDD
a USB floppy may or may not be supported for boot

Some BIOSes also have an option to seek floppy at boot and/or to turn on the
floppy controller. Check yours.

Did check mine and the option is available. Still doesn't work tho.
Apparently, this being a Toshiba notebook, it requires a Toshiba FDD to work
in this FD bootup mode. (My "lowly" Sony USB FDD ain't good enough!)

Thanks!

Interesting. My Toshiba Tecra 9000 will boot from a Compaq USB FDD.......
