Downloaded a XP Home Edition Bookdisk from MS. Intstalled and when it gets
to the Licensing Agreement. I need to press F8 to agree. It will not
accept me pressing F8. I tried esc and it will let me exit out of the
system. Help. The reason I am using a bootdisk is that my system was
taking 2 hours to even get to the desktop. Then it would not alow the short
icons to come up on the screen.

Contacted support, but still waiting on them to respond.

Thanks
TJ

Have you tried another keyboard?
You do know that the Windows XP CD is bootable and the disk is not
required unless you have certain types of OEM Windows XP?

Tried to get it to boot from the XP update cd. I cannot even get the thing
to boot from the cd. I installed the cd and it just sits there. If i
restart the computer with the cd intalled it just goes to the wallpaper. No
desktop no icons nothing the hour glass just keeps running. I did have an
option to do a repair with the "tConsole" But I was afraid to try because
that is above my level of experience. I did not try another keyboard. I
know the esc key works with the bootdisk and the F8 key work because I tried
to boot in safe mode and the F8 key was beeping every time it was pressed.
I just would not work with the bootdisk. Right now I am working on my
laptop. The problem is with my Desk Top PC.

Thanks

When you reboot to the CD a message appears "Press any key to boot to
CD"
The message is only up for a few seconds and you must press a key in
that time or boot continues as if there were no CD inserted.
You may need to go to the BIOS to set CD-Rom as a boot device before
hard drive.

Try this:
Reboot tapping F8 each second
Select "Last known good configuration" at the menu
Or...
Reboot tapping F8 again
This time select Safe Mode at the menu.
Then System Restore to Date/Time before issue started.
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore
Select Date/Time.

You could try a Repair Installation:

Also don't you have to change the boot sequence in BIOS to the CD drive as
1st. boot device instead of floppy ?

No, all that is necessary CD is before hard drive in boot sequence.
If floppy is first and no floppy is inserted, floppy is ignored.

Well got the "D!@N" thing to bood from the CD. Tried to go through the safe
mode by doing the F8 thing but could not get into safe mode. Just installed
in the CD rom and openned and closed it till it ran. Right now it is
running the windows cd it is in the preparing instillation mode. I received
an error stating that there were some problems with software. It also said
click details for more information. Well clicked details about 8 minutes
ago. Still waiting, I believe it is hung up again. Cannot get it into
dos mode to try any of the mentioned suggestions. Dropping it from a bridge
would not help my problem but it sure would make me feel better.

Thanks

Will keep you updated
