bootcfg in Recovery Console does not work

Unable to get bootcfg /rebuild to work properly and then run Repair Install.

After downloading and trying to upgrade my onboard RAID driver, it turned
out to be older than my current driver, my RAID mirror was turned into
STRIPED.

I then took the once mirrored pair, and installed them in my other onboard
SATA RAID ports. That did not work, and I got into a blue screen situation.

I then ran Recovery Console, fixboot, and chkdsk. No good. Then I tried to
run Recovery Console>bootcfg /Rebuild. I got three questions,

1. Add installation to bootlist?
after entering yes or all, it then asks:
2. enter load identifier:____
3. enter OS load options:____

I entered "1" and <enter>. When I run a "repair install" it says "Setup
cannot find a previous version of Windows installed on your computer."

Any idea on how to proceed in the recovery process?

It seems to me that you are fighting what the MAP utility would see. Recovery
Console, type:
MAP ARC
(compare to old boot.ini entries.)
I'm not sure what could be done to return to this config, but I thought it
might get you something.

For help on Map, start/run, type:
HH mk:mad:MSITStore:%windir%\Help\bootcons.chm::/bootcons_map.htm

I ran the Recovery Console and MAP ARC command on "1: C:\Windows, and got

c: NTFS multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)

(It also listed A: floppy, E: CdRom0 and F: CdRom1.)

I still get into a reboot loop regardless of which partition I select ("1"
"1" or WindowsXP). The good news is that my data appears to be there on the
other drive which I put into an external USB case and checked on another PC.

Thanks.
