Hi

You can boot your PC with the XP CD - so long as you have set your CD drive to be the 1st bootable via the BIOS. Have a look in the manual for your motherboard for instructions on how to do this.

If the system came with XP, it either came with restore media or XP CD. Both
are bootable and can be used to restore the system from a crash. Neither can
restore important data not backed up, so make sure you make recent backups
of your data in case you need to use the restore media.

You do not normally do that using a floppy. If the system has to be
repaired or reinstalled, you set the BIOS of the machine to boot the CD
before Hard drive. Hit the appropriate hot key, usually DEL as the
memory counts up at power on. Then on a page like BIOS Settings, change
Boot order, or rearrange on a special Boot page. ESC back, Have the CD
ready in the drive and Exit and save settings. Then in the Setup
WIndows you have the choice of either 'Repair Installation (usually the
thing to try first) or New install. IN that, when it asks where, hit
ESC, select and delete the present partition and make a new one to be
formatted at the next stage
