What controls (sequences) the chain of events when you boot up starting with
BIOS? Specifically, any notices / warnings (like do you want to do a PC
Restore or Re-format the hard drive) that appear before Windows XP home
starts loading.

Compaq, and I think a few others, build some system-restore
functionality into the BIOS, getting it to work relies on a hidden
partition on the hard drive.

It's not a standard BIOS feature, I think it's one of the last items in
the POST.
