Boot-up problems

My computer keeps crashing on boot-up. I make it through the Gateway (I purchased a Gateway computer) screen where you have the option of pressing F1 (for system settings) or the TAB key (for system messages). This screen is followed by a black screen with the Windows XP logo in the center and a box with a green bar/light that moves from left to right. Then, a deep blue screen with yellow text flashes for a second and the computer reboots and continues this cycle until I shut it off. The blue screen flashes so quickly that I can't make out the words on the screen. One of the words that I see is "BIOS". I tried using my Windows XP Home Edition upgrade disk, but I have lost the product key and I have to abort the setup process when I reach the "Type in Product Key" screen. How do I fix this problem?

Try entering in Safe Mode (Tapping F8 during boot process). Also, a
question; Have you installed any software, hardware, etc that can be tied to
the recent issue. If your computer was fine till now, what has taken place
that may be to blame. It's a starting point. If you can figure that out,
getting into safe mode (If you can), you may possibly be able to do a System
restore.
