My hard drive continues to run and run and run. The computer freezes while I
hear the hard drive go clickty clickty,,clickty clickty click.

Boot-up takes forever while the hard drive runs and runs and runs. Some
times XP will boot up sometimes it will not.

I've run 2 different virsus programs---all clean
I've run 3 different hardware diagnostics---no hardward probelms

Upon running an IDE disk read disk test I came across the following errors:

0F00: 244 --Message-- Block 102984013-102984044 Uncorrectable data error
or media is write protected

0F00: 1A44 ---Message-- Block 102984013-102984044 Uncorrectable data error
or media is write protected

Any help is much appreciated--- is there a fix for this problem?

TIA

I think the fix is a new hard drive. If I were you I would try to back-up
anything that is important off the old hard drive. Hard drive manufacturers
usually have a diagnostics tool for their drives, you could try their site.
But it sounds to me like you need a new drive.

I've run the manufacturer's hard drive diagnostics, I've run 2 different Dell
hardware diagnostics and I've contacted Dell support. They say it's a
software issue and the hard drive works as it should.

Hi,
Well I would still say it's the hard drive. From experience a drive that
makes a noise as you seem to be describing is close to failing. As you will
need to re-install the system if the drive does fail have you made a back-up
of your important stuff. If you have then you could recover the system to
its factory condition and see if the system performance improves.
How old is the system just as a matter of interest.
