Boot Record Problem

This is my problem.
These are the new products I have just bought:pC Chips 830LR Athlon Socket A
motherboard, AMD XP 1800+ processor,512 memory,Lite On 16X DVD Drive,US
Robotics WinMOdem,AGP Rad 7000 64 Mg Video card,Antec 300W Case,Case fan,
and MB fan.
Hardware I already had and didn't need to buy are the floppy drive and
Maxtor 40 g hard drive which I just bought about 2 months ago.
So, I took both old drives out of my old Pc and installed them in my new
case along with all the new hardware I bought today.
THe machine recognizes my hd,floppy, and dvd drive. I can also get into my
bios setup.
Then it starts looking for the Bootrecord and this is the messages I get:
"Searching for BootRecord from floppy..not found."
"Searching for BootRecord from IDE-0..OK." Then it just hangs. No DOS prompt
at all. I tried putting a Win 98 boot up disc in and it doesnt recognize it.
I tried putting the Win xp boot up floppy and it doesnt recognize it. I have
also tried the Win XP setup cdrom and it doesnt recognize it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Have you formatted and partitioned the drive?

yes, the hd that I am using already has xp on it. I took it out of the new
pc today and reinstalled it on the old pc and windows xp still comes on.
Then, I took it out and put the hd back in my new pc and it still won't
allow me to do anything. Can't even get to dos. the only difference now is
that I can put my 98 startup disc in and it says "Searching for boot record
from floppy..OK" then it too hangs.

Check cable is the correct way round. If the floppy drive light is on
all the time then the cable is incorrect even if the,"Lugs" say it
is.Red Pinstripe to Pin 1 on the board and the floppy.I've had to cut
the lug off at the floppy end before on cables that are none standard.

You should format and reinstall clean when changing motherboards. Put it
back in the old PC, wipe it and format, then reinstall clean to the new PC.
