Boot Problems in XP Pro

Jeff

I know there are a bunch of senarios to this cause and
effect, but I thought I'd post this question and see what
I get back.

Yesterday I was able to boot into XP Pro normally and
today I can't. If I try to boot normally I get to the
point where it askes me for my user name and password and
once the systems starts to load any user profile I see
the wall paper then it reboots automatically. I can get
into safe mode, but not with networking as an option nor
can I get into VGA mode. The system wasn't connected to
the internet all week, so the posibility of a virus
attack is less likely; also I didn't install any new
hardware. I ran a full scan disk to no avail and am now
running a virus scan with current definitions I loaded
from a CD.

If all else fails FORMAT C:\ :)

Any ideas...

Sounds to me a driver problem and possibly VGA driver.
In any case, the crash is during the loading personal profile, it is likely
that something wrong with your drivers and/or other auto-load utilities.
Try to check if there is a device conflict when you are in safe mode.
Also try msconfig to disable non-essential startup services and drivers and
works on ID which one gives you the problem.
If everything fails, re-install XP.
