When I go to boot my Windows XP home edition I get a message box stating
"Invalid Object" with "lsass.exe" in the title bar of the window. When I
press OK it reboots my machine. I thought about just do an install/repair
thinking corrupt file but it asks me for my Administrator password. I don't
know what it is, the manufacturer (Compaq) already installed that and I can't
find any documentation telling me what it is.

How can I repair? What are my options?

Thanks!!

Hi,

Sounds like you're going to the recovery console.
When you boot the XP CD the first screen say press 'R' to repair ignore this
and continue 'Press Enter' it should then detect your previous version of XP
and ask if you want to repair it..
If you don't see this and it asks what drive you want to install XP to, Quit
setup as it going to install a fresh copy of XP and you don't want that :).

Hope this helps

There's ulitites that will recover your administrator password for you but I
wouldn't waste the time and money looking for them. Do a fresh (and safe)
install on UNALLOCATED SPACE and recover any data using the new install.

Boot from the CD, but do not press R to go into Recovery Console. You only
need the password if going into RC. It is better to try a repair reinstall
first, since Recovery Console is not user-friendly.

Proceed as though you are going to reinstall XP. At a point, it will look
for previous installations of XP. If yours isn't too badly hosed, it will
offer to repair it, so you want to take this option. It may ask you for the
installation key, so have it ready.

I had the same problem. And the recovery, even though it re installed files,
didn't fix the problem.

I searched the internet, and it doesn't seem like there is a solution, other
than a re install of XP.

I hope this isn't something that is going to start happening all over the
place.

I heard it has something to do with the SAM files, or the hives.

I hope someone figures it out.

Ditto here. I've seen a couple or three cases where the LSASS bombed out
at bootup and the only solution was to do a clean install. Never figured
out what caused it.
