Boot problem

I am having a boot problem with my home computer. It boots to where the
background picture appears, but the icons never appear. If I click anywhere
on the screen nothing happens.
I can boot in safe mode.
When I tried system restore, I still have the problem.

Help please, I don't want to reload windows if I can help it!
 
next time you get to
a blank screen do a
ctrl alt del to open
a task manager then
click on new task and
enter explorer.exe

have you considered a REPAIR install instead of a complete reinstall.

Is the taskbar missing too? Without knowing more try running the edit on
Kelly's site:
