When I start up in the AM, or reboot, most or the icons that are supposed to
be in the task bar are not there. I get messages for 2 programs that they
did not start. However, I then log off and log back on. Everything starts
OK.
I have Windows XP, sp2, 512 mb of memory. what could be the problem?

Hi Leroy,

Windows XP, sp2 doesn't say anything to me. What version of XP are you running? What Anti-Virus Software package is installed?

I'm running the Windows Version 2002 Home edition, and Avast v4.7 Home
Edition.

A known bug when you automatically logon to your user account. Either log
off then logon to show all Notification Icons or disable SSDP and uPNP
Services.

To disable the SSDP and uPNP Service:

Control Panel (Classic View) > Administrative Tools > Service > locate and
double-click "SSDP Discovery Service" > Choose "Disabled" for the Start up
Type.

Perform the same actions for "Universal Plug and Play Device Host".

or

You could disable Automatically Logon to your user account.

Type the following in the Run dialog box or command prompt:

control userpasswords2

Check "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer"
